Children's Associate, Children's Department
Hours: 18 hours per week on average. Includes a minimum of three scheduled weekdays, including daytimes and at least one evening during the week and rotating weekend hours (both Saturdays and Sundays)
Salary: $18.87/hourly

Position Description: Do you like to sing and dance with toddlers? Can you name all seven Harry Potter books in order? Is your Goodreads library at least 25% kids books? We are looking for an exceptionally friendly, approachable, forward-thinking person to join our staff in our Children’s Department at the Glencoe Public Library. This position reports to the Head of Children’s Services, and works closely with all of the Children’s Department staff. MLS candidates encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • One year of experience working with children in a school or library environment or comparable field
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of classic and current children’s media, including literature, films, and pop culture
  • Competent and comfortable in use of Microsoft Office Suite and database software applications
  • Knowledge of current technological trends
  • The ability to collaborate with teammates
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provides reference, readers advisory, and technology instruction to patrons of all ages
  • Assists Library patrons in the use of digital and print resources
  • Plans and implements a variety of programs for children ages 0-12 and their families
  • Creates interactive features and promotional content, both within the library and on virtual platforms
  • Represents the library through outreach within the community
