Employment Opportunities at the Glencoe Public Library

Job Title: Children’s Associate, Children’s Department
FT/PT: Part-time
Hours: 16 hours per week on average, including at least one evening during the week and rotating weekend hours (both Saturdays and Sundays)
Salary: $18.87/hourly

Position Description: Do you feel comfortable singing and dancing with a room full of babies and their caregivers? Are you enthusiastic about children’s literature and enjoy working with kids? Do you enjoy working in a collaborative team environment? We are looking for an exceptionally friendly, approachable, forward-thinking person to join our staff in our Children’s Department at the Glencoe Public Library. This position reports to the Head of Children’s Services, and works closely with all of the Children’s Department staff.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or related field
  • One year of experience working with children and their caregivers in a school or library environment or comparable field
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with the staff and public in a pleasant manner
  • Knowledge of classic and current Children’s Literature
  • Competent and comfortable in use of Microsoft Office Suite and database software applications
  • Knowledge of current technological trends
  • The ability to collaborate with teammates
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Assisting with providing reference, readers advisory, and technology instruction to patrons of all ages
  • Assisting Library patrons in the use of digital and print resources
  • Planning and implementing children’s programs, including but not limited to storytimes, book discussions, and book-related programming
  • Creating attractive and engaging displays
  • Creating booklists and promotional materials
  • Representing the library in community events and providing outreach to schools
